It's not uncommon to have people approach us and tell us how they would love to have a dog like ours. However, let me tell you that the Irish Water Spaniel is a very unique breed with some special requirements. Do you have time for grooming? Our dogs are kept in primarily "show" coat all of their lives. That means that they need to be bathed and groomed often. Weekly grooming -- biweekly bathing. Do you have time for that? If not, this probably isn't the breed for you, no matter how appealing they are.
Do you have time for exercise? The IWS are born retrievers. They are not a couch potato by nature. I spend at least 1 hour per day with them either playing fetch or some type of physical activity. Can you commit to that?
